Meet the Team – Nigel Anderson

Nigel was born in Zambia and moved to South Africa in his early teens to the Midlands of KwaZulu Natal. After completing his schooling at Howick High School and doing the compulsory two year army stint, Nigel worked on a private game reserve adjacent to the Kruger National Park where he met and married Sue. Moving back to Pietermaritzburg Nigel completed a trade as a mechanic before embarking on a farming career. Unable to shake his wildlife calling Nigel joined the Natal Parks Board where he spent a happy 14 years, studied Nature Conservation, undertook reserve management, research and freelanced as a wilderness trails officer – where he met Andrew and Susi Anderson.

For seven years after the Natal Parks Board Nigel worked for BirdLife South Africa as their Bird Guide Training Manager training guides throughout South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana.

After leaving BirdLife South Africa Nigel worked for various business enterprises but still had the hankering for the bush and for wildlife. After a fortuitous meeting with Andrew and Susi, Nigel became African Insight’s first full-time guide in July 2012.

Nigel has a passion for all wildlife related issues, is a keen birder, photographer and writer and loves his job as a guide for African Insight. “People and wildlife are my passion so what better job can there be than as a guide for African Insight”?
