Nigel noticed a week or two ago, that the weaver birds were building their nests very high up on the trees. He said we were going to have a lot of rain – that the birds said so.
I’ve also heard that when termites build their nests up trees, it means the same thing. With the soaking rains earlier this week, and the river level that has kept raising today, both Nigel and the birds have been proved right. (Although some experts do not agree: http://globalbirdtrekkers.org/content/view/460/1/ ).
I guess that it must be a survival mechanism, but can anyone tell me how they know so far in advance, and if there are other creatures that do this?
